SpaghettiOs, frozen dinners pulled from shelves

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Two popular grocery items are being pulled off the
shelves — SpaghettiOs that weren't adequately heated during processing,
and Marie Callender's frozen dinners that pose a salmonella risk.

The
Department of Agriculture announced both recalls late Thursday. ConAgra
Foods is recalling all Marie Callender's brand cheesy chicken and rice
frozen meals after they were possibly linked to an outbreak of 30
salmonella illnesses in 15 states.

Confession of a compulsive couponer

The day my column ran about using coupons more effectively to save money, I broke my own cardinal rule -- I went to the grocery store without a list or a single coupon.

I'd wanted to fix dinner before I went to work because I knew I'd be late and my kids deserved more than Hot Pockets and canned corn. (Dad's idea of gourmet cooking.)

While struggling through the last five minutes on the elliptical machine, I settled on baked rigatoni. All I needed was some ground meat, tomato paste and cheese.
