The value of the children's backyard project

“Go outside and play” has been a favorite suggestion of parents for ages. Kids get out in the fresh air, they burn off some energy, and parents get some peace. I love it that we have a fenced yard so I can know where my kids are, checking on them periodically through the windows. They can run around and act crazy, and I don't have to hear it all.

The secret to making the kids get along with each other

The stars apparently aligned just right, and a gentle breeze blew a heaping dose of Peace and Harmony in amongst my three children this afternoon, causing them to play together happily for hours. They can play together nicely at various times, but it doesn't normally last so long and sound quite so sweet. And this was after a rocky morning full of accusations, shouting, and tears among these same children.

Fun here or fun there? A mommy's dilemma

There's nothing better than fun, free activities to engage the kiddos... like story time at the library. This week I had planned to take my two boys (ages 5 and 2) to story time for some wholesome entertainment and a chance to get out of the house.

So it was almost time to go, and – wouldn't you know? - my boys were playing trains so nicely together that I felt bad for making them quit.

VIDEO: Theatre campers love the show

by MamaPowers on Mon, 07/20/2009 - 4:09pm

The Savannah Children's Theatre held the culminating shows for their summer camp this weekend.

I stopped by to see "Metaphasia" on Friday and had the chance to talk with Jennifer Doubleday, the SCT's Associate Director, who emphasized how important the support of moms is to the community theater project.

And the kids agree! Watch this video to see the campers share their enthusiasm for their stage and camp experience.
