De-sand your child's hair before leaving the beach

Two weekends ago, my husband and I took Meyer to the beach for the first time this summer.
After we posted a video of the outing on facebook, a friend from high school offered me her best sand-removal advice:
"Our kids always had a problem with sand sticking to the top of their heads (usually self-applied somehow). To remove the sand, apply baby powder to it and lightly rub it in. The baby powder removes the moisture that is holding the sand to the scalp and the sand will fall off. Works like a charm!"
I have already put the baby powder in our beach bag, and I'm going to try it next time out.
Anything to save our family car and the leather interior from a few more gritty grains.

Since they turned off the showers at Tybee I have been keeping milk/juice jugs filled with tap water and some clean towels in the back of the car. When we come up from the beach I stand the children on the dirty beach towel, strip them down, rinse them off and wrap them in clean warm towels. It sure makes for a peaceful ride home.
