Life after Christmas
Christmas came and went again. All the weeks of planning and preparation and choosing just the right gifts came to their culmination yesterday in one great day of gift giving and receiving.
The day after Christmas is a bit of a let-down, I think. Sure there are still presents to play with and days off from school. Maybe some after-Christmas sales to hit. But nothing too exciting really. And maybe that's a good thing.
It's good to have happy, big events like Christmas to look forward to. It's also good to get back to normal. To settle back, relax, and take inventory. To hit the ground running. To boldly look into the face of the new year to come. Maybe make some plans, set some goals, move forward. Even just rediscover what “normal” means without all your free time consumed by Christmasy activities.
Yes, the kids are still out on Christmas break, and there may still be some traveling or New Year's Eve plans in the next few days, but in my heart I myself am ready to move forward with the regular business of life in a week or so.
So for now, let us enjoy the extra time with our loved ones, tending to any final after-Christmas details or New Year's plans. And let us prepare to launch into the new year, happily re-engaging “normal,” hopefully in some enhanced form for 2013.
