Mom Knows Best: 88-year-old great-grandmother Mary Johnson

Often times in life we reflect and dwell on the negative things (or maybe that’s just me) and overlook the positive things in life.

At age 27, I am very, very lucky to have all four of my grandparents living. I am even more blessed that I had such supportive, loving and fun grandparents growing up and still to do this day.

With two young, working parents, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. My maternal grandmother was a school teacher and paternal grandfather was the janitor at my elementary school. Papaw Frankie (Menster) bought me an ice cream bar every day! My brother and I spent every afternoon in my Grandma Davis’ classroom, playing school or reading books. The Menster grandparents used to take me and my cousins to the beach, and every year, usually more than once a year, the entire Menster clan would load up our bikes and campers and go on vacations together.

When 88-year-old Mary Johnson talks about memories with her two daughters, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, you can’t help but wipe away the bad thoughts and go to a happier place.

Mary Johnson is this week’s interview on Mom Knows Best. This time Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma Knows Best.
